Demonology Wiki
Paranormal investigation on Roblox: gather three evidences, survive hunts, and identify 23+ ghost types with your Journal.
Contains loud audio, flashing lights, and patterns that may disturb sensitive players. Use max graphics for best visibility.
Game overview
Demonology is a cooperative (or solo) horror investigation game by Blaqk Magic Blue. You work for Demonology Solutions, LLC—investigating haunted job sites with up to six hunters.
Your contract is simple: find the ghost room, collect three unique evidence types, mark them in your Journal, identify the spirit, and extract alive for cash, EXP, and shop upgrades.
- —Released December 12, 2024; active updates through V1.9.x
- —Eight evidence types; each ghost uses exactly three
- —Difficulties: Easy, Medium, Hard, Nightmare
- —Spirit Box / Umbra Board require text prompts—voice chat does not work
Equipment purchased for a job is consumed when the run ends—plan loadouts before deploying.
Quick start — 5-step investigation
Use this loop every job until identification is confirmed:
- 01
Deploy & split roles
Assign EMF/thermometer scout, camera operator, and defense (cross/salt). Stock energy drinks on Nightmare.
- 02
Find the ghost room
Sweep with Thermometer and EMF audio—coldest room with strongest readings is usually favorite.
- 03
Place evidence kit
Floor Spirit Book, Laser Projector, Spirit Box (lights off), salt lines, and cameras before hunting.
- 04
Mark the Journal
Toggle found evidence on; scratch missing types. Never mark fake orbs on Skinwalker suspects early.
- 05
Identify & extract
When one ghost remains, call it in and leave—photos and burnt crosses boost payout.
Journal hotkey: J on desktop. Mark three correct evidences to auto-filter the ghost list.
All evidence types
Eight evidences exist in Demonology. Each ghost leaves exactly three. Cross-verify—Skinwalker can fake orbs and mimic abilities.
Ghost Writing is planned to expand as Inscription (wall markings). Until then, Spirit Book writing still counts.
| Evidence | Equipment | How to confirm | Common mistakes |
|---|---|---|---|
| EMF Level 5 | EMF Reader | All five lights must illuminate, including the red light, with a sharp beep. Triggered when the ghost interacts, manifests, or starts a hunt near the device. | Lower EMF readings are common in the ghost room but do not count as evidence—only Level 5 confirms EMF5. |
| Handprints | Blacklight | Scan doors, windows, walls, and disturbed salt lines for green fingerprints or footprints after interactions. | Prints fade over time depending on difficulty—photograph or confirm quickly. |
| Spirit Box | Spirit Box | Use in the ghost room with lights off. Ask questions until you hear a response or see red caption text. | Roblox voice chat cannot be used for Spirit Box or Umbra Board prompts—use in-game text questions. |
| Ghost Orb | Video Camera / Head-Mounted Camera / Video Monitor | View the suspected ghost room through camera feeds for a small white orb. On Nightmare, orbs may drift if the ghost room changes. | Skinwalkers can fake Ghost Orb evidence—cross-check with a third evidence before marking. |
| Freezing Temperatures | Thermometer | Confirm when temperature drops below 0°C (32°F), or when you see breath fog, floor mist, and frozen windows in the ghost room. | Brief near-freezing spikes that rise again usually rule out Freezing Temperatures evidence. |
| Ghost Writing | Spirit Book | Place the Spirit Book on the floor in the ghost favorite room and wait for markings to appear inside. | A ghost throwing the book during a hunt can disprove writing evidence. Renaming to Inscription is planned (wall markings). |
| Laser Projector | Laser Projector + Video Camera | Place the projector in the ghost room; eligible ghosts show a faint silhouette when walking through the beam. Record via camera for confirmation. | Lower graphics to Manual level 1 if silhouettes are hard to see—reduces visual delay on some devices. |
| Wither | Observation (Flower Pot, metal, paintings) | Watch for rusting metal, wilting flowers, distorted paintings, and map decay over time—timing is random. | On the Prison map, certain NPC prisoner animations can act as Wither indicators. |
Ghost identification table
23 ghost types are listed below with evidence sets and hunt notes. Data sourced from the community Fandom wiki and in-game Journal—verify after major patches.
| Ghost | Evidence | Strength | Weakness | Hunt tip |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spirit |
| Can turn candle and lantern flames blue, reducing passive energy drain from lit flames. | No standout hunt modifiers—baseline ghost for learning routes. | Watch flame color during hunts; blue Holy Oil flames can confirm Spirit. |
| Wraith |
| Drains hunter energy; does not disturb salt lines. | Salt lines instantly disprove Wraith when crossed. | Lay salt early to narrow Wraith vs similar types. |
| Ghoul |
| Can hunt after Spirit Box use; does not disable electronics during hunts. | Electronic disable behavior helps distinguish from Skinwalker. | Test Spirit Box carefully—Ghoul may hunt immediately after responses. |
| Phantom |
| Very fast movement; blinks slower while hunting. | Less likely to hunt when multiple players are in line-of-sight. | Stay grouped on higher difficulties to reduce hunt frequency. |
| Shadow |
| Subtle temperature changes; less active in well-lit rooms. | Slow in lit areas, faster in darkness—control lights with Lantern. | Keep ghost room lit when possible to slow Shadow hunts. |
| Demon |
| Hunts frequently at high average energy; crosses have larger range and may float while burning. | Crosses are especially effective—spread two crosses for coverage. | Floating burning crosses indicate Demon, but Skinwalker can mimic—confirm with evidence. |
| Specter |
| Throws items often; rarely roams outside ghost room except during hunts. | Limited roaming makes ghost room identification easier. | Camp evidence tools in one room—Specter stays predictable. |
| Entity |
| Teleports between rooms and can teleport objects (smoke effect). | Rarely throws items—low interaction noise. | Use LIDAR and cameras to catch teleport smoke cues. |
| Skinwalker |
Trap: Do not mark Ghost Orb until three other evidences align—Skinwalker is designed to deceive. | Fakes Ghost Orb; mimics other ghosts abilities (Demon crosses, Spirit flames, etc.). | Four marked evidence means orb is fake; Ghoul lacks writing—use Spirit Book tests. | If three evidences plus orb match nothing, you have a Skinwalker. |
| Banshee |
| Breaks multiple windows or mirrors at once; unique hunt wail possible. | Mostly docile outside hunt windows—audio cues help ID. | Listen for glass-breaking patterns early in the job. |
| Wendigo |
| Hunts more often; prefers targeting groups. | Aggressive but identifiable via orb + writing + projector combo. | Avoid splitting the team on Nightmare when Wendigo is suspected. |
| Nightmare |
| Causes auditory hallucinations; afraid of lit rooms. | Keep lights on in ghost room to reduce activity. | Hallucinations can fake distant footsteps—trust equipment over audio alone. |
| Leviathan |
| Throws multiple objects; passively toggles lights off. | Light switching gives telltale signs during setup phase. | Watch light switches flick off without player contact. |
| Oni |
| Extremely fast during hunts; more ghost events and appearances. | Visible on Laser Projector reliably—confirm before Nightmare runs. | Prioritize projector footage; Oni is a top-tier threat on Nightmare. |
| Umbra |
| Silent footsteps; speed varies with lighting. | Slows in well-lit rooms—flood ghost room with Lantern or candles. | Pair light control with salt or cross defenses. |
| Revenant |
| Very low hunt cooldown; hunts chain when energy threshold is met. | Stops hunting after a kill until next threshold—clutch revive windows. | Do not confuse with Demon—Revenant pauses after downs, Demon chains. |
| Aswang |
| Speed increases after each kill; only ghost with both Wither and Ghost Writing. | Salt lines slow Aswang—use salt defensively during hunts. | Confirm Wither on Flower Pot or rusted metal before marking writing. |
| Dullahan |
| Appears headless in Photo Camera shots—bonus photo income. | Speed increases when hunters are in line-of-sight. | Break line-of-sight around corners during hunts. |
| Dybbuk |
| Can throw corpses; excessive chat messages may trigger hunts. | Keep party chat minimal on Dybbuk suspects. | Skinwalker can mimic corpse throws—verify Spirit Box responses. |
| Siren |
| Female model and voice; may hum in Spirit Box instead of answering. | Hum responses are a unique tell when Spirit Box is active. | Slows hunters in line-of-sight—break LOS during chases. |
| The Wisp |
| Walks through fire lines; can relight candles; hunts only from ghost room. | Fire lines do not block hunts—do not rely on fire alone. | If hunts always start inside ghost room, suspect Wisp. |
| Keres |
| Targets lowest-energy hunter; feminine Spirit Box voice; -10% speed per unique kill. | Energy Drinks and monitors counter targeting—stay above 90% in solo. | In solo, stay above 90% energy to avoid Keres interest. |
| Vex |
| Invisible on LIDAR; walks through walls while hunting (not furniture). | LIDAR empty ghost room strongly suggests Vex—watch corner-cutting movement. | Scan adjacent rooms with LIDAR; no red dots means likely Vex. |
Equipment guide
Starter tools are free each job; shop gear is consumed per run. Prioritize survival income before luxury items.
Purchased items do not persist between jobs—budget per run, especially on Nightmare.

Recommended purchase order
After basics, upgrade in this order for most teams:
- 1. Cross
- 2. Salt Canister
- 3. Photo Camera
- 4. Lantern / Lighter
- 5. LIDAR Scanner
- 6. Defibrillator
- 7. Rock Salt Shotgun
Hunt survival
Hunts trigger when average team energy drops (~85% threshold). Demons chain hunts; Revenants pause after a kill.
- Crouch and break line-of-sight—closets and loops work on most maps
- Burn crosses before Nightmare; Demons get wider cross radius
- Rock Salt Shotgun ends hunts but is expensive—team carry one on Nightmare
- Low personal energy attracts Keres—use Energy Drinks and monitors
- Oni and Wendigo demand early identification—do not greed photos mid-hunt
Job sites
Learn one site at a time. Layout knowledge beats random rushing on Nightmare.
Lincoln Street
Compact suburban house—good starter map with natural lighters in some layouts.
Lilim Lane
Features natural lantern spawns—useful for Spirit identification.
Asylum
Large multi-floor site with long sightlines; Wither visible in restrooms and guest areas.
Prison
NPC prisoners may animate during hunts; unique Wither-like tells on this map.
Office / Corporate Sites
Multiple rooms and electronics—Ghoul vs Skinwalker tests are common here.
Difficulty & rewards
Higher difficulty increases hunt pressure, evidence decay, and payouts.
| Difficulty | Risk | Reward |
|---|---|---|
| Easy | Low ghost aggression, forgiving hunts, lower payouts. | Best for learning evidence tools and journal workflow. |
| Medium | Balanced hunt frequency—recommended after starter jobs. | Solid cash and EXP without full Nightmare pressure. |
| Hard | Faster hunts, evidence fades quicker, less room for mistakes. | Higher payouts—bring crosses and photo camera. |
| Nightmare | Ghost room may change (orb drift), Energy Monitor disabled in rain, maximum aggression. | Top multipliers—4+ coordinated players with meta loadout recommended. |
Perks & cursed objects
Tarot perks and cursed items add risk/reward layers for experienced teams.
- —The Hanged Man — double cross burn value (popular economy perk)
- —The Empress — stamina sustain for long investigations
- —Cursed objects can force evidence or hunts—use only with a plan
- —Plushie guarantees Spirit Box responses when levitating
Meta tier list
Ghost threat varies by patch and team skill. Demons, Oni, and Entity remain public-lobby nightmares; Spirits are teaching targets.

Frequently asked questions
How many evidence types do I need?
Exactly three unique evidences marked in your Journal. Scratch evidences you ruled out to narrow ghosts faster.
Why does Skinwalker break my journal logic?
It can fake Ghost Orbs and mimic other ghosts. Confirm three non-orb evidences before marking orbs, or four total evidences means the orb is fake.
Can I use voice chat on Spirit Box?
No. Roblox voice chat cannot ask Spirit Box or Umbra Board questions—use the in-game text prompt system.
What is the fastest way to find the ghost room?
Thermometer freezing signs plus EMF audio spikes. Mark freezing in Journal once below 0°C.
Do handprints disappear?
Yes—duration scales with difficulty. Check salt lines and doors quickly with Blacklight.
How do I identify Vex?
LIDAR shows no dots where a ghost should be, and Vex cuts through walls during hunts (not furniture).
Best gear for beginners?
Cross, Salt Canister, Lantern/Lighter, then Photo Camera for income.
Solo Nightmare viable?
Possible but punishing—learn Medium with starter gear first; Keres targets low solo energy below 90%.
